How to Check your NIN with your Mobile Phone

NIN stands for National Identification number. It is the proposed official means of identification in Nigeria. The Agency in charge of registering Nigerians for the National identification number is the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).

NIMC has released a USSD code that every registered Nigerian can use to check their NIN number from their mobile phones.

USSD Code for Checking NIN on Mobile Phone

You can check your NIN by dialing *346# on your mobile phone.

A prompt will display telling you to press 1 to retrieve your NIN or 2 to cancel.

Once you do this, your NIN number (National identification number) will be displayed on your mobile phone screen.

You will be charged 20 Naira for this service.

If your NIN is not linked to that number, you will get this kind of message;

In recent news, the National Communication Commission of Nigeria (NCC) announced that SIM cards that are not on the National identity database will be blocked.

This means that if you have more than one sim cards, all of them must be tied to your NIN number; if not, they will be blocked.

Network providers have different methods for customers to link their NIN to their mobile numbers.

You can visit your network provider customer service outlet with your sim card and NIMC slip to update the information.

Visit any NIMC office or any of its private partners to register for National identification Number. Due to the crowd at registration centres, you have to go as early as possible.

Is there a Deadline for Linking NIN to Phone Number?

There is no deadline for now. The National communication commission of Nigeria earlier scheduled the deadline to end a few days to 2021.

This announcement was met with backlash and public outcry. Hence, the commission will have to reschedule.
