WhatsApp web is an extension of the WhatsApp mobile application that allows users to also use WhatsApp on a computer system. The WhatsApp web platform was introduced in January 2015, you can read about it on the WhatsApp blog.
One of the reasons why I prefer WhatsApp web to mobile is because I work on my laptop more than I do with my Android phone. It would be a stress for me to switch from my phone to my Laptop whenever a message comes in.
So when I’m working, I connect my WhatsApp to my computer and use my computer to reply to my WhatsApp messages. Awesome, isn’t it?
How WhatsApp Web Works
WhatsApp saves all your messages, images and documents you’ve shared on your mobile device.
When you connect your WhatsApp to the WhatsApp web platform, all your WhatsApp messages are mirrored from your mobile phone to the web platform. Your phone mobile data makes this possible.
The images and other files you have sent are not made available immediately until you request for them by clicking on it.
How to use WhatsApp Web
Obviously, you need a computer system with internet connection for this to work.
Step 1: Visit web.whatsapp.com on your computer.
Step 2: Open WhatsApp on your mobile device, click on the three dots at the sidebar and click “WhatsApp Web” to open the WhatsApp QR code scanner.
Step 3: Place your camera to fit the WhatsApp QR code on your computer screen.
Wait for a while for your messages to sync from your phone to WhatsApp web.
You can now keep your phone wherever you like. But, your mobile data must be active for it to keep syncing (working).
Some phone models take more time to scan the WhatsApp QR code. The phone camera quality plays a huge role here. When this happens, removing the phone back cover and pointing the bare camera to the QR code may work.
WhatsApp also has a software application for computers running from Windows 8 and above or Mac OS X 10.9 and above.
The only difference between the software version and the web version is that you must use a web browser to access the web version. Every other thing is actually the same.
How to Log out of WhatsApp Web
In case you are using a public computer to access WhatsApp web, it is necessary you log out immediately after use. To prevent unauthorised usage of your WhatsApp account.
While you are logged in to the WhatsApp web account, click on the three dots at the top. See image below.
Click log out to sign out from your WhatsApp account.
WhatsApp messages are encrypted from user to user, so no third party has access to either your message or your friend’s message.
These same high level of security is also available on the web version.
Have you used the WhatsApp web version? Do you prefer it to the mobile version of the app? Let’s hear your say.
